Harland Simon has always prided itself on the creation of a professional and alluring work culture that attracts high quality talent and retains it for the long term. At the moment there are many employees who have been with the company for 10 or more years and over 25% of staff have been with the firm 25+ years.
But a true milestone was reached this month when both Sales Director, Rob Watson, and Director of Vero Solutions, Tim Young, celebrated their 30-year anniversaries with the company.
Rob joined the company as Contracts Engineer in 1987, progressing to Contracts Manager before moving into a sales management role in the mid-nineties. Since then Rob has been instrumental in promoting control solutions across a wide variety of industries worldwide. In 1998 he became Director of Sales at Harland Simon’s subsidiary in Chicago where – now focusing on solutions for the newspaper print industry – he developed the US sales operation, returning to the UK as Sales Director in 2004.
Starting his time at Harland Simon as Software Engineer, Tim Young helped to code and install many of the company’s early press management systems but was recruited by the sales department in 1995 to develop the computer systems business. For the past 6 years, Tim has been building one the company’s newer ventures for real-time tracking systems and now heads up the Vero Solutions brand which helps logistics, manufacturing and other commercial organisations improve employee safety and increase efficiency.
And all through their employment with Harland Simon, both Rob and Tim displayed a calmness and dedication to the company not often seen in today’s workplace.
